The Fail Mid 180° actuators with 90° safety position are used for 0°-90°-180° circuits in which a 90° angle at air failure should be approached. On both sides of the actuator a spring block is mounted which is tensioned by the rotation of the 90° position.

 

The fail mid 90° (safety) position is achieved by the action of the spring force, in air or power failure, from 0° or 180° position.

A control with solenoid valve that controls the flow of pilot air supply is required for the proper functioning of the single acting actuators 180° with 90° safety position.

from 90° to 180°:

Air supply at port 2 forces the pistons outwards from the center position and compresses the springs on the inner plate. A rotating counterclockwise direction is obtained.

from 90° to 0°:

Air supply to the port 4 moves the piston inwardly and compress the springs on the outer plate. A clockwise rotation is obtained.

Air failure: 180°:

At power failure (air or electric failure) at port 2, the pistons are moved by the spring force inwards to the center position. A clockwise rotation is effected.

0°: If power fails at port 4, the pistons are moved by the spring force in outside direction to the center position. A rotating counterclockwise direction is effected.
